Overview

The creation of our modelled hands was overseen by our visual design, Xin. Using gloves as a mold, and cement as a filler, the final result was a sleek physical model that incorporated materials and themes aligning with our narrative.

Rationale

CONCEPT: Hands seem to be breaking out of a cement base.
Symbolizes Persephone escaping society’s control.

SYMBOLISM: Rising from cement = freedom and resistance.
Shows that even the heaviest chains can be broken.
Pirate Coin: The Token of Freedom. Persephone’s fate changed when Hades gave her the coin.
Chains: Breaking Free, breaking free from societal constraints.

Supporting Items

DETAILS: Cracks around the wrists—looks like breaking free from chains.
Real ropes or metal chains embedded in cement, broken at the exposed hands.

Process

We used cement, rubber gloves, and aluminum to create the final design. We used a hammer to create the look of the cracks that are on the side of the figure.
